Mon 02 Mar 2020 Mr Watkins

As a celebration of when DNA was first extracted 67 years ago today, Year 1 and Year 3 were visited by scientist Dhamayanthi who taught them all about the history of DNA and the importance it has to all living things. Then, as all good scientists do, we conducted an experiment to extract DNA from a strawberry. We all had so much fun! Thank you Dhamayanthi.

Maths Challenge

Well done to our four pupils from Woodpeckers who represented the school at the Cambridge Year 4 maths Challenge. There were over 150 pupils from more than 30 schools and our two teams did particularly well in the problem solving and puzzle sections. They finished in a very respectable top 20. Ms Lamper, who attended with them, was very pleased with their behaviour, mathematical skills and determination.

Amazing homework

Year 4 traditionally produce some of our best homework and this term is no exception. Well done to all those pupils who have spent so much time creating informative and interesting models and presentations.

Grafham - Final day

We have two coach loads full of tired and somewhat smelly children. They were fantastic last night and they’ve had enough rest to undertake their final session on the water. Breakfast is being served and the adults are on their 3rd coffee of the morning. The coach picks us up at 2 so we should be back at the end of the school day. We’ll keep you informed via the office if this changes.

It’s pretty foggy here this morning but the breakfast bacon and eggs has gone down a treat. They slept really well last night after all the activities. As it’s our last full day they’ve been set the challenge of really pushing themselves today.

Grafham - day one

We have arrived at the centre and enjoyed a day in the sunshine. Rooms have been allocated, groups sorted and activities undertaken. Dinner of sausage and mash went down well and we are now gearing up for night time orienteering. The neat and well packed cases you saw this morning are no longer neat and well packed.

Mad science

We welcomed Mad Science back to Colville today and enjoyed a fabulous assembly. We saw an egg being squeezed into a conical flask and saw the impact a match has on flash paper. We will look to run another Mad Science club here at school so look out for the leaflets\emails if you or your child are interested.

End of Term

It's the last day and our festive activities are in full swing. There's plenty of singing, party games, cooking and fun to be seen around school. We would like to wish everyone a happy holiday and look forward to seeing the children again on Monday 6th January 2020.
