‘We Love, We Laugh, We Learn’

  • House Day

Tue 03 Dec 2019 Mr Watkins
Yesterday was our first house day. Pupils from reception to year 6 enjoyed spending a morning with their house teams to create decorations for our four trees. Led by the heads of houses, all pupils and staff worked together to make an interesting array of winter themed decorations. It was fantastic to see the pupils enjoying working alongside their school friends and mixing in different groups. The feedback from the children was extremely positive! Plans are in place to get together in houses soon after Christmas.
  • Cross Country

Fri 29 Nov 2019 Mr Watkins
Mr Hasting and Ms Lamper had the joy of watching 15 of our student compete in the School Sport Partnership Cross Country Event at Netherhall this morning. We have not had the full results yet but initial reports show some strong results from our runners, including one top 12 finish! Well done to all the participants - it really is a long way up that hill!
  • Footballing Success

Mon 25 Nov 2019 Mr Watkins
On Friday 22nd November 2019 a squad of 8 Colville players took part in the EFL Utilita cup competition at Bottisham VIllage College. Having been drawn into a tough group and facing 6 group games and 13 rounds to the final, Luke Dace (captain) knew the importance of starting strongly. In their first match against The Grove, Harrison scored a low drive from the edge of the area and Colville won 1-0. Next up was William Westley, where despite an excellent finish from Bobby, we were held to a 1-1 draw. A very tough game against the Vine was decided by Ollie’s superb long range effort and two from Guillermo. Another victory against the Stephen Perse school saw a goal each for Harrison and Guillermo. Round 8 saw a first defeat to St Andrews of Soham, but a goal by Yair and a 1-0 win against Willingham ensured a top place finish in the pool. The final was contested between Milton Road and Colville. Goals from Yair and Guillermo in the first two minutes ensured a tense but victorious finish to the tournament, with Colville becoming the EFL club winners 2019. Congratulations!!!
  • Panto Run 2019

Tue 19 Nov 2019 Mr Watkins
Thank you so much to all those parents and family members who helped with costumes and sponsorships for our annual Panto Run. The number of children in costume and the amount of laps completed were very pleasing. The total raised is as yet unknown as sponsorship continues to come in. The pupils will be most excited to see this year's production of Cinderella (oh no they won't).
  • Duxford

Tue 19 Nov 2019 Mr Watkins
Year 6 enjoyed a trip to Duxford Imperial War museum as part of their studies into World War Two recently. The feedback from the pupils was that it was an amazing experience to see the military hardware up close. Particular highlights included the actual WW2 bomb shelters, the land warfare D-Day exhibit and the diorama of the crashed Me 109.
  • Cambridge Mosque Trip

Mon 04 Nov 2019 Mr Watkins
Woodpeckers enjoyed a very engaging and interesting trip to Cambridge Mosque on Mill Road. The Mosque were excellent hosts, giving our students lots of detail and opportunities to explore the various sections of the building. The children asked insightful questions and enjoyed learning about Islam. Particular highlights were the balcony, dome, spa-like washing areas and the community gardens. Miss Harris and I would like to warmly thank the Mosque for the trip and hope we can repeat it with subsequent classes.
  • Journalism Club

Tue 29 Oct 2019 Miss Miklos

Children who have attended Journalism Club were given the opportunity to visit the offices of Cambridge News. They were shown how journalists find pieces of news, where they write their articles and how these are edited by the news editor before they are published. During the tour they saw the news library, where old articles are stored and the first edition of Cambridge News from 1888. A lot has changed since then in publishing: the children learnt how news articles are published online and how the interests of readers are constantly monitored. Our young journalists had endless amounts of excellent questions which were thoroughly answered by David Bartlett, the editor-in-chief.

  • Woodland Trip

Tue 15 Oct 2019 Mrs Mansfield

A small group of children visited Anglesey Abbey on Tuesday for a woodland adventure. A great time of year to be looking at how nature is changing and collecting fallen leaves.

The children were even treated to hot chocolate with the added bonus of marshmallow and cream.

  • Great Colville Bake off

Tue 15 Oct 2019 Mr Watkins and Mrs Bond
Wow. Simply wow. What an enormous success the Colville Bake Off was. The PTA are delighted with the number of entries we had. The standard of baking was very high and the sheer volume of cakes proved a challenge to our staff tasters and judges. The results will be announced by Mr Hastings in Wednesday's assembly. Thank you to everyone who helped out at home with the preparation, cooking and aftermath of their child's creation!
  • Football success

Tue 15 Oct 2019 Mr Watkins
Congratulations Colville! Our football teams enjoyed our best ever day of sporting success with the boys team winning their tournament and the girls team winning for the first time in our history! The boys team won all five of their games without conceding a goal and qualified for the regional finals in January. The girls team drew two games, won one and lost two to finish a very respectable 8th overall. Well done to everyone involved!
