National Curriculum Purpose of Study
A high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities. It should provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.
How is Physical Education Taught at Colville Primary School?
Pupils at Colville enjoy regular PE lessons each week. All year groups are allocated two hours of PE per week, in addition to the daily mile. Our PE curriculum is taught by school staff and specialist PE teachers. We run and enter a wide variety of inter-school competitions and the strong house set-up allows for plenty of intra-school activities. The curriculum revisits core learning so pupils can build up banks of physical skills and communication strategies which combine to allow them to take part in team sports. We hope this culminates in pupils who strive to win, but know the value of hard work, fitness and an active lifestyle.
