We have been looking at tourist locations in Cambridge and this week we were looking at Kettles Yard and considering the question: "What is art?" We looked at the founders of Kettles Yard, Jim and Helen Ede, and how they displayed natural objects in their home (such as pebbles and feathers) alongside paintings and sculptures. This led us to considering the artworks of Andy Goldsworthy who uses found objects such as branches, leaves and stones to create circular installations outside in nature. We went onto the field to find our own art materials and were very happy with the results!
Dear Parent/Carer
RE: Year 1 class
Following my letter on Friday regarding the rising number of Covid cases in your child’s class, we have seen a continued rise in cases, in both staff and children. Thus, from Monday 15th November, Wagtails class will move to remote learning for a period of 10 school days, with children being able to return to school on Monday 29th November. We will keep this date under constant review and if safe to do so will return earlier.
Unfortunately, due to the high number of cases amongst staff in this year group, it is not possible to ensure the health and safety of the children with the available staff. With high staff absences across the school as a whole, we cannot safely move other staff members to cover the Year 1 absences. Hopefully, by moving to remote learning, we will prevent any further transmission of the virus in this class.
If you have other children in school, please continue to send them as normal, but ensure you maintain social distancing. Remember if your child has symptoms or tests positive, they must isolate and not come to school, as outlined in the flowchart I shared on Friday.
We will be sending details of how to access remote learning shortly, if you require support with online learning please contact the school by telephone or email and we will help wherever possible.
At this moment we are still intending holding the planned virtual parents’ evenings this week, but please remember to talk about how well your child is doing and celebrate their achievements and not just about this issue!
Thank you for your understanding in this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any concerns.
Yours sincerely

Our year 5/6 girls football team enjoyed total dominance at our city tournament. Winning five games on the bounce and not conceding a goal meant their final 0-0 draw was enough to deliver the gold medal. Well done Girls!
Thank you to everyone who supported our Harvest drive for Jimmy’s Food bank in Cambridge. The donations will be dropped off ASAP and I know the staff at Jimmy’s are very appreciative of our school’s donations.
The year six pupils enjoyed their day out at Wicksted Park. What a lovely end to their time at Colville Primary School! Many thanks to Mr Wilton and Miss Brown for organising this special end to the term.
Well done and thank you to everyone involved in the Year 6 production of Fleeced. Despite the pandemic and the heavy rain moments beforehand the students put on a wonderful performance. They really enjoyed the ability to perform outside and show off their acting and dancing skills!
It was a very successful trip to Grafham water with our year 5 and year 6 pupils. Given the year we have all had it was delightful to all be out and about having fun with the activities. The photos give a flavour of the activities and the key events of the days out.
Thank you to everyone who tried to grow a sunflower for our front garden. The results have been varied, ranging from 83cm whoppers to those whose seed didn’t germinate (or wasn’t there!). It’s been great to see the looks of satisfaction and to hear the groans and excuses. The final results will be tallied in the next couple of weeks. Fingers crossed for an end to the frost!

New on the Storytime portal this week, we also have a reading of the fantastic ‘Fortunately the Milk’ by Neil Gaiman (Age 7+), split into 4 parts. A teaching resource to accompany the book is available here.
