‘We Love, We Laugh, We Learn’

Storytime

Featured stories from Storytime this week include meeting Fergal the fuming dragon who needs to find some peace, art-loving Luna who gets to go to a gallery and aspirational Geronimo who wants to learn to fly, despite being a penguin.

New on the Storytime portal this week, we also have a reading of the fantastic ‘Fortunately the Milk’ by Neil Gaiman (Age 7+), split into 4 parts.  A teaching resource to accompany the book is available here

For our full selection of all the Storytime videos, please visit www.Schoolreaders.org/storytime (password: love2read) which includes new stories and ones with activities.  Due to the licensing conditions, please only share these links with parents, carers and school staff via e-mail, on closed platforms and groups.

Storytime Spring term, Week 6

‘Fergal is Fuming!’ written and narrated by Robert Starling (Age 5+)
A dragon with a short temper is not a good combination, as Fergal's family and friends soon find out. He burns the dinner (literally), reduces the football goal to ashes and absolutely cannot play a nice, quiet board game. It is only when he starts to notice other animals have clever tricks to calm down that Fergal begins to win back his friends, especially when he discovers dragons can cool off in a very handy way.

To accompany this story, there are drawing activities including a guide on how to draw Fergal, lesson ideas for teaching staff and a short story courtesy of Robert Starling and Andersen Press

‘Luna Loves Art’ written and narrated by Joseph Coelho (Age 5+)
At the gallery, Luna is transfixed by the famous art, but her classmate Finn doesn’t seem to want to be there at all. Finn's family doesn't look like the one in Henry Moore's 'Family Group' sculpture, but then neither does Luna's. Maybe all Finn needs is a friend…
A drawing activity is available here, featuring famous works of art by Van Gogh, Henri Rousseau, Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst and more! Can you spot all the art?

‘Geronimo’ by David Walliams (Age 7+)
Meet Geronimo – the baby penguin who has one dream and one dream only – and that is to fly! But everyone knows penguins can’t fly… or can they? With a little help from his dad and friends, baby Geronimo discovers that even the wildest of dreams can come true.
