‘We Love, We Laugh, We Learn’

  • Let it snow!

Wed 28 Feb 2018 Mr Watkins

Children and staff are enjoying the snow! It’s been wonderful to see all the pupils throwing snowballs, making snowmen and catching snowflakes. It’s fair to say Mr Hastings is pretty accurate with a snowball!

  • Les Crêpes

Fri 23 Feb 2018 Mr Watkins
A huge thank you to all of our wonderful French teacher and her volunteer students from the Perse who gave up their Friday afternoon to cook crêpes with all of our year 6 students. The children really enjoyed following the recipe and conversing in a French about their food.
  • Tag Rugby

Thu 22 Feb 2018 Mr Watkins
Our Year 6 Tag Rugby team enjoyed a very cold afternoon at Shelford Rugby Club as part of the Cambridge School Sports Partnership Tag Rugby Large School competition. They played 6 games altogether and only lost twice. Although they just missed out on qualifying for the next round, they should be very proud of their performance. In particular, Charlie led the team brilliantly, displaying excellent communication skills while Maheen's handling skills were exceptional. Both Mr Hastings and I were very proud of their efforts. Well done!
  • Raptor Foundation Visit

Mon 19 Feb 2018 Mr Watkins
We had a wonderful talk and demonstration from the Raptor Foundation today. Elliot gave us a very informative and entertaining description of the lives of five different species of bird. The four owls and large hawk provided entertainment during a flying display. Did you know the Barn Owl is a silent hunter? The children were amazed at the bird’s strength and agility. We are grateful to the Raptor Foundation for providing such an excellent instructor and inspiring a love of birds within our school. For more information on the Raptor Foundation please see - http://raptorfoundation.org.uk/
  • 100 Days of School

Fri 09 Feb 2018 Mr Watkins
Today we are celebrating 100 days of school! In morning assembly Mrs Lightning entertained the whole school by marking out the size of some really fascinating animals - including a 7 metre long Saltwater Crocodile and an enormous Goliath Frog. The morning has been spent enjoying maths and English activities based on the idea of one hundred. It's been great to see such a wide range of creative and interesting ways of engaging with the number. I'm sure all the children will thank their teachers and Mrs Lightning for planning such a fun set of activities!
  • O2 Young Voices

Fri 02 Feb 2018 Mr Watkins
Well done to everyone who took part in the Young Voices Choir performance at the O2 last night. From listening to those who went it seems you represented the school fantastically and ensured our proud tradition of high quality singing and behaviour was upheld. The school adults who attended the event are very proud of you.
  • Eye Heroes

Wed 31 Jan 2018 Mr Watkins
Well done to the pupils in year 4 and year 6 who qualified as Eye Heroes this week. Many thanks to Harri, Yusef and Alex who so generously gave their time to teach the pupils about eye health and how to spot potential eye problems. The sessions were great fun and very informative.
  • Eye Heroes Workshop

Fri 26 Jan 2018 Mr Watkins
Pupils in years 4 and Year 6 will have a special Eye Hero workshop on Monday and Tuesday afternoons next week. The aim of the sessions is to promote a better understanding of how the eyes work and how children can take care of their vision. Pupils in year 4 and 6 will receive a form today asking for permission for Eye Heroes to use any photographs of your child from the day in their promotional materials. Please feel free to sign and return next week if you are happy to do so. Alternatively, if you don't wish your child's images to be used don't return the form to us. I hope it will be a very informative and useful set of sessions.
  • Bigger Picture

Tue 23 Jan 2018 Mrs Mansfield

The Bigger Picture children visited the Perse School to learn about the artist Paul Klee, abstract art and making connections between music, movement and art.

Lots of fun was had, the children were jumping about and even took a ‘line for a walk’.

  • Grafham Day Four

Thu 18 Jan 2018 Mr Watkins
The end has come! After four full days of activities and frivolity we have returned to Colville. Every single child should be proud of their achievements and thoroughly pleased with their mature attitude and independence. The staff at the Centre complimented their behavior and willingness to persevere with challenging tasks. Before we left there was time for an excellent demonstration of mountain bike skills from Miss Brimson and Mrs Mansfield's groups, a wonderful effort on the high ropes from Mrs Deane (and her group!) and some exceptionally cold pioneers from Mr Watkins' group. The latter definitely won the award for most time spent in the freezing pond and least time spent on the bridges they had made! All the staff would like to thank the parents and carers for their support with packing and financing such a wonderful trip. It has been so valuable to all of the students. We hope they will look back on their time at Grafham very fondly.
